AYESHA ARIF

With over 15 years of experience in the care industry, I have held various roles including care coordinator, manager, and now service manager for Amethyst. In the past three years, I have focused on supporting mental health in living environments, expanding my expertise and finding great fulfillment in this field.

Throughout my time with Amethyst, I have worked across multiple services and enjoyed connecting with a diverse range of individuals, each with unique needs. Currently, I oversee one service,  collaborating with a team of 15 staff and two team leaders. We strive to empower our tenants to live independently, achieve their goals, and create a supportive environment.

Throughout my journey, I have been fortunate to work alongside a dedicated and inspiring Senior Management Team, who have played a crucial role in my professional growth.

TEAM LEADERS

DOROTHY MORLEY

I started working for Amethyst as a Team leader in May 2024.Before this I spent 4 years working with adults who had severe learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and challenging behaviour. I began my career as a support worker where I developed a passion for person centred care. This was a very challenging role which not only helped me to develop skills in providing personal care, supporting individuals with daily activities, and helping those individuals develop their own skills but it also helped me to learn and develop skills in incident management, crisis prevention and de-escalation when handling challenging and often violent behaviours.

After 2 and a half years as a support worker I decided it was time to progress my career and applied for an internal promotion to Team Leader. I spent 18 months in the role in which time I further developed my skills and passions. This role gave me the opportunity to learn and practice team management, daily planning and general office management. These skills ensured I was able to keep the service running smoothly on a day-to-day basis.

I developed a real passion for working with people and improving lives and decided it was time to further expand my knowledge and move into a field I have always been interested in which is mental health. I discovered Amethyst and applied for the team leader role working in their new service for young adults. I am excited and eager to continue learning and developing my career with Amethyst.

Working with Amethyst within the last 18 months has been eye opening, from a Support Worker to being a Team Leader, if has afforded me an insight into the health care sector and further avail me the opportunity to lend a helping hand to people who need it the most.
Before I ventured into the health and care sector, I worked as a legal practitioner helping those who could not afford legal assistance for themselves, the indigents and the downtrodden, I found this as a tool to help the needy where necessary.
Since I branched off into this industry, I have honed my skills more in areas that now allow me to function as a Team Leader and deal with situations like crisis prevention and de-escalation of circumstances when handling challenging and often difficult situations, people management, and conflict resolution between staff and team management, weekly planning of how to run the team I work with and the clients we have, while also building skills in office management. These skills have enabled me and my team to function as a single unit and complete daily tasks smoothly.
When the opportunity presented itself to work with young adults with mental health challenges, I was glad to get on board as it allowed me to help and encourage them to achieve an expected goal of self-independence while mastering basic life skills. I look forward to acquiring more knowledge in the field of mental health, in order to equip myself for further challenges.

OUTREACH

Support within your own home

Amethyst Care & Support work in partnership with Leeds City Council, who commission the services we provide within the Leeds area. Anyone requiring specialist Supported Living and who reside within the Leeds area, would need to discuss this with their Social Worker in the first instance, who will undertake an initial assessment; If the Social Worker feels there is eligibility for Supported Living, a referral to the Mental Health Nomination Board will be submitted. If Mental Health Nominations approve the referral, they will then contact Amethyst directly with the relevant information. Once all information is received by Amethyst CSG and if a vacancy is identified, a member of the Amethyst team will make contact so that further information can be obtained to check suitability.
