VANESSA FINDLAY
Mental Health & Wellbeing Lead
My background in mental health has spanned over a decade in the Third Sector and NHS and through that time, I’ve come to understand that working with people who are struggling with their mental health, at its centre, needs to be driven by compassion and kindness. I work with individuals in a way that is meaningful to them and that honours who they are as a whole person. I believe that individuals should be at the very centre of their care and that we have a duty to them to treat them with dignity and respect. I know that our histories shape our stories, and that is true for me and you. Everything that I know, I have learnt not only from areas such as education and colleagues but just as importantly from the individuals who I have had the privilege of caring for and about.
Underpinning my philosophy and how I work with people are a degree in social psychology, masters in psychology and post-grad cert in interpersonal skills and counselling. I am particularly invested in peer support and understand the great value that this brings to a range of services. I am always looking to explore how I and the services that I work within can keep striving to do better for individuals.
Outside of the day to day, I can usually be found reading, at the climbing gym or spending time with family and friends.
